|
|
Anyone use gigabyte 970a-ud3 mobo with raid? Want to setup 5 drives for raid 5 array but not sure if it'll work. Manual shows only 3 drives supported in RAID 5 but bios allows setting all 6 sata ports to raid.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
Kind regards
EDIT:
Appears I read manual wrong. It indeed shows greater than 3 drive array possible! Many thanks for help and great suggestions![/b] Sorry for wasting forum space! _________________ Gentoo

Only thing significant I noticed is using non-linux OS's which I may end up doing. Five drives for raid 5 is what I'm wanting through mobo bios-controller but I don't have enough drives ATM to test that functionality. If anyone else can chime in that'd be great! _________________ Gentoo

vexatious,
The fake raid on your motherboard is a form of software raid.
The only reason to use fakeraid with linux is that Windows needs to access the raid too.
For linux only, mdadm is more secure and better maintained. You can also start with 3 drives and reshape your array(s) as you get more. _________________ Regards,
