|
|
hi guys,
i've done a fresh install in the virtual box, using slim + xfce4.
but, i find the slim seems cannot auto load when boot up, for the login screen does not appear at all!
when i log in via tty as user, i can start x window by typing startx, and then comes the xfce4 desktop.
so, i think the problem is with slim! i back to the tty, and use /etc/init.d/xdm start, it complain:
Code: | * xdm: superuser access required |
but when i log in tty as root, then the slim login srceen can load, but run abnormally after log in via slim, just show me the black screen...
the result of command rc-update show defualt:
Code: | consolekit | default
dbus | default
dhcpcd | default
local | default
net.eth0 | default
netmount | default
virtualbox-guest-additions | default
xdm | default |
you can see that i add the consolekit to rc-update already...
there should be no problem...but why???
my question is: why does this come from? am i missed something important? how to eliminate it?
any one would like give me a hand? just explain this? thanks a lot!

I recently installed SLiM because xdm did not seem to want to work properly with xfce4.
However I did not see your issue - SLiM starts up OK.
/etc/init.d/xdm start should be run as root, and during startup this is what *should* happen. However this script may not figure out that you want to run SLiM - make sure your /etc/conf.d/xdm has DISPLAYMANAGER set to "slim". With this set, I get the SLiM login on startup.
Now the next problem is what happens if your login screen appears, and you type in your login and then it kicks back out... that's what I was seeing with the traditional xdm...and is another separate problem... _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD

hmm, thanks for your reply, eccerr0r!
i did the careful check during the two days,
and check all the related files, but found nothing.
at last, i did emerge --sync, and then env-update && source /etc/profile,
then everything seems ok... oh, my god! the wasted two days!
i did emerge-websync in the install, but not emerge --sync, even after xorg, xfce4.
(i was no sense about this may cause problem...)
in my opinion, emerge-websync is enough! there is no need to run emerge --sync,
this issue proved that i was wrong...
after a dirty install, emerge --sync is needed. that's what i've learned. |
