Posted: Thu Oct 23, 2003 10:16 pm Post subject: Problem emerging Mozilla and NSS |
|
|
I've recently reinstalled Gentoo off of the 1.4 Live CD, and went ahead and did a Stage 1 install. Things have been working fine, except that I've been unable, under any circumstances to get Mozilla or the nss packages to build. I get the same error each time, and here is the error from the output of a failed nss emerge:
make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/nss-3.8/work/nss-3.8/mozilla/security/nss/cmd/shlibsign/mangle'
Linux2.4_x86_glibc_PTH_OPT.OBJ/shlibsign -v -i ../../../dist/Linux2.4_x86_glibc_PTH_OPT.OBJ/lib/libsoftokn3.so
./sign.sh: line 51: 17746 Segmentation fault ${2}/shlibsign -v -i ${4}
make[2]: *** [../../../dist/Linux2.4_x86_glibc_PTH_OPT.OBJ/lib/libsoftokn3.chk] Error 139
make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/nss-3.8/work/nss-3.8/mozilla/security/nss/cmd/shlibsign'
make[1]: *** [libs] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/nss-3.8/work/nss-3.8/mozilla/security/nss/cmd'
make: *** [libs] Error 2
!!! ERROR: dev-libs/nss-3.8 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 54, Exitcode 2
!!! nss make failed
I've been working on this for while, and I was able to get the build closer and closer to finishing by copying libnss3.so, libssl3.so, libsmime3.so, and libsoftokn3.so to /usr/lib. These files are built by the emerges in question, so I'm not entirely sure why this shlibsign program looks for those libraries in /usr/lib, but anyway...
While the previous errors were still SegFaults, I was at least told that it couldn't find the libraries that I've copied to /usr/lib, unfortunately this did not fix the problem. Now I'm getting a SegFault without explanation. So, I went ahead and did a systrace on the command above that caused the Segmentation Fault. Here is the output from that:
bash-2.05b# strace Linux2.4_x86_glibc_PTH_OPT.OBJ/shlibsign -v -i ../../../dist/Linux2.4_x86_glibc_PTH_OPT.OBJ/lib/libsoftokn3.so

I've been working at this for a while, and I'm completely at a loss. It fails on the mozilla-1.* and nss-3.8 emerges. I'm running the current specs:
AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1400
Gentoo Kernel 2.4.22-r8
512MB RAM
More than enough HD space
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the exact same problem, a year later
I'm also getting segfaults when starting mozilla-firefox-bin. One thing to note is I am using 2.6.9-rc3-mm3 with linux26-headers and glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r1 with nptl, gcc-3.4.2-r2 and reiser4. This and firefox are my only issues so far with this setup, but it is a new install. Also, sorry for bumping up something so old, but I can't copy into links2 very easy, and this has all the messages already |

Just an update, rolling back to linux-2.6.8.1-mm4 fixed all these problems. So now I atleast know the source of the problem. |

[EDIT]
Yep, that did it.
[/EDIT]
I'm on 2.6.9-rc4-mm1 and getting the same issue. I'll try 2.6.8.1-mm4, assuming it has reiser4 patches and try to remember to post results.

I also have the same problem with the latest mm-sources kernels, but mm-sources-2.6.9-rc2-r3 works fine. |

Same problem here on mm-2.6.9-rc4... any workarounds? |
