When I boot I get lots of errors:
Code: | insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.23_pre8-gss/kernel/drivers/net/8139cp.o insmod 8139cp failed
How come I get this when my network card works? I remember there was a file I could edit to get these error-messages do disappear...something with a blacklist ?
Please help.

Could it be that you have 2 network cards in your modules.autoload ? |

Maybe you complied your kernel with your NIC support built-in... then there is no module to load (which would explain the insmod error). |

I had this error and found this.
The Realtek 8139 series seems to advertise itself as a 8139/8139too/8139c/8139cp all at once and all together, and if you look in boot log, just before them warning messages you will see eth0 running OK with 8139too module.
So what I think happens is the kernel tries all the available kernel drivers for that card, and they all try to load (Gentoo has two, the 8139too and the 8139cp).
So, if what I say is correct and you see the 8139too driver loaded and eth0 is OK, move the 8139cp module to the 'blacklist', and you will never see again

hmmm, I got a belkin network card, and it ios based on the realtek chipset.
In kernel config I got "realtek 8139" as a module, and "support for older realtek cards" built in.
I have checked /etc/modules.autoload and it is empty. |

I have checked /etc/modules.autoload and it is empty.
It will be.
Just put '8139cp' in the blacklist file and it will not attempt to load that module driver.
