Hello everybody, I am working with gentoo operation. I deleted all files in /ect/ folder (rm -rf /etc/). Is it possible to recovery them? Could you suggest one way to recovery them? thank you so much

toanhoi ... you should shutdown the machine immediately so that nothing further is written to disk. Then, dependent on what filesystem is in use, you can use a tool like sys-fs/extundelete (ext3/ext4) to try and recover the deleted files. I'd suggest using sysrescuecd and making an image of the disk for recovery.

Of course as you ask I assume there are no backups ... which would have saved you in such cases. Also, something like safe-rm could be used to prevent this from happening.

HTH & best ... khay

Since this is posted in Installing Gentoo forum I'd say extract /etc/* from tarball again. All customization will be lost indeed.

Thank you for your help. From your suggestion, I think I must install gentoo again. it does not help option autofix, right?(that mean when I install, the system will scan missing files and autorecover(autofix)).
