Your loki_patch binary isn't illegal, as long as that is what it is. From all the winking and such I may suppose it isn't. However this other fellow, eug2k, most definitely was suggesting getting t2 for whatever platform off a bit torrent site. |

That was what I was talking about as well.....the loki_patch is indeed found on other sites. I couldn't remember them off the top of my head so posted it somewhere I knew it could be found .....They aren't going to find any ISO anywhere on that site
From what I understand, the actual update for tribes 2 uses a binary (contained in the script) called loki_patch, which was compiled using a now outdated compiler. I was given the patch, from either Ryan Gordon, or from someone else at icculus, I honesly cannot remember where I got it. The link I supplied is to a loki_patch compiled with the newer compiler. The first UT2003 patch shares this problem with Tribes 2 as UT2003 use the same "Loki updater". The winks are just my personality, honest. I didnt notice that many of them myself though. If anyone has taken this as missleading. Please. Reread the post. If my help is missunderstood, then it is no help at all |

if you're certain you have the correct Tribes 2 patch, then you don't need a new loki_patch binary
once you have extracted the .run file and changed to the new directory, execute this:
Code: | ./bin/Linux/x86/loki_patch patch.dat /path/to/tribes2 |

You can't do that, as far as I know. There is a script on the Tribes 2 CD called setup.sh, that is what you should use to do the inital install. Once installed THEN patch it with the .run file |

You can't buy a linux version anymore, and if you could wouldn't you just to boost the sales of a linux version if it was only 10 bucks?
Thanx,

Geez, when I said that I meant a paid download, or who ever owns tribes now could do it. I'm done playing games that don't natively run on linux. I mean, I have enough games on my linux notebook right now that I can hold my own at a lan party. Ut2004 comming out (really like the demo), Doom III (I bet it will run on linux) , NWN, RTCW, ET, Savage, wesnoth (really addictive open source game), and Legends I can say if it doesn't run on Linux I don't need it. It's sad though that Tribes II could run on linux but now it's impossible. Oh well, I wasted 10 bucks on a game, it is a very pretty cd though.
There are games that I wish ran on linux, but I can only spend so much time playing games anyway, and I have a ton right now. I'll buy Linux games when they come out, but if it doesn't run on linux, ehh, who needs it? Between my Linux notebook and my GBA I spend too much time as it is playing games as it is.
But I do think it's cheap that the company that owns Tribes II couldn't buy the loki code and put it on the cd.
Thanx,
Stan |

Is tribes 2 kinda dated? Are the vehicles better than they are in UT2004? I've never played it, always wanted to buy it through loki but back then I didn't know much about linux, used RH and couldn't get the nvidia drivers running. Or maybe back then I still had my voodoo3? How old is it anyway?
Thanx,

Tribes 2 still looks great, it was challenging for the graphics hardware of it's time. The vehicles are better than the ut2k4 vehicles in that they actually DO things, like they give radar for target locks on missiles, etc. UT2k4 vehicles are just there for killing, for the most part. If I recall correctly I was beta testing the first series of betas towards the end of 2000, and we did the second beta series in early 2001. So that would make it a summer 2001 game. |

Hmm, not that old. Some one needs to make a UT2004 mod when it comes out that makes the vehicles different, they do blow up too fast.
Thanx,

::EDIT:: BTW, the error you got above, is a problem with the loki_patch which is in the above patch/script. If you do manage to get a cd and have problems patching it, just post back here and I'll give you the information to fix it |
I'd be interested in the fix instructions... as the tribes ebuild while installing (apparently) cleanly does not result in a version of the game that will play with current servers. _________________ What, me hurry?

To bump this thread:
I got a peculiar problem with tribes2 on kernel 2.6.3 (problem was already there on previous 2.6 and 2.5 kernels), Its sometimes impossible to connect to a server, it stop when loading the objects and quits (after some time) with the message that the connection has timed out, and when I do get into a server the mapchange kicks me out again with the same error.
More people having this and does someone know how to fix this? _________________ In "old" Europe we already have a word for "pre-emptive strikes" mr Bush: its called "war" |

Ideally, we should improve Legends, and get it to be compatible with Tribes/Tribes2 network protocol. Does that sound at all feasible? |
