|

I have an ASUS A7N8X (nforce2) mobo, using the intel8x0 ALSA driver in 2.6.0-gentoo for sound, and while sound runs quite well in pretty much anything I tried, in ut2003 it's a scratchy, choppy mess. Yeah, I did my search on the forums, I tried
Code: | echo "(define devices '(alsa))" > ~/.openalrc |
and
Code: | echo "(define devices '(alsa native))" > ~/.openalrc |
AND
Code: | echo "(define devices '(sdl))" > ~/.openalrc |
and with all of them I ended up with more or less the same results (sdl was the best, but still all wacky). I also tried unmerging openal and building it from cvs, but it didn't change anything. What the hell is wrong with that OpenAL piece of shit! I hope nobody will ever use it again.
UPDATE: I never noticed it before, but from what I can tell from its logs, America's Army runs OpenAL too, although my sound in this game has always run fine. What the hell is so different in ut2003 that makes it so uncooperative?! |

there is a bug in the openal.so in ut2003, try copying openal.so from the america's army System directory to ut2003's System Directory, if that doesn't work, search icculus's bugzilla at http://bugzilla.icculus.org |

Works now. All this time I thought ut2003 used the system-wide OpenAL. Boy do I feel dumb now. |

Can anyone link that openal.so for me? I can't really install that big America's Army thing... I only have limited downloads per week
Hopefully it's not illegal to do so...

or just create a link to the libs. That way if you update openal the game is all ready to go! |

While you're at it, backup the UT2k3 stock SDL lib and replace it with a link to your system SDL lib -- you should get a framerate boost from that if you had your CFLAGS/CXXFLAGS set optimally when you compiled SDL. _________________ Note: This user has been arrested under the DMCA for copyright infringement based on a complaint from The Inernational Cliche Company.
