What is the deal? No one can make a single post, particularly in Gentoo Chat, without one or two angry, petty retorts. It's like freakin' arguing with your wife. You make the comment, "You look nice today, dear." and she hears, "You typically look like crap, but today you're not so bad." It's the same thing here. Someone says, "Fluxbox is cool!" and 10-15 people hear, "KDE sucks!" and start going off about how "KDE blows Flux out of the water, and furthermore, Flux developers have their heads up their butts, and by the way, you stink."

I fully expect I will get at least one reply (well had I not said this anyway) to the effect of, "Oh yeah, show me one post that says that. You probably read one post and you are making all your judgements on that, you dirty, dirty man!"

I don't really know what point I was attempting to make. It just seems like there are people with their browsers permanently pointed to Gentoo Chat, hunched over their keyboards, mouses constantly clicking the refresh buttons, until an appropriate vent is posted on which they can loose their bile. Mmmm, bile. Time for lunch.

I hadn't noticed this. Historically these fora have been very friendly. If you continue to see unfriendly behavior here, some links would be very helpful.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it unfriendly. Just...I don't know...a little hot-headed sometimes. The angry comments are usually followed by a smiley, and you know, I'm a sucker for a pixelated cartoon face, particularly an animated one. :lol: :) :D :roll:

Aha. That must be the problem then.

I've got animations turned off on my browser so I am not affected the same way. : )

You're delusional and paranoid. Also you smell bad, and later I'll post some speculatory comments about your lineage.

(I couldn't resist the opportunity.)

Everyone has opinions and everyone shares them. *shrugs* One of the side effects of Linux allowing so much choice and customization of a machine is that people tend to get attached to certain peices of software. Generally there is a reason to choose one program/wm/etc over another and that reason is usualy very personal, so when you say you like program X and I feel that program Y is better, I'm more apt to not only tell you that its better but give you every reason why I hate X.

Its healthy. Much more so than your marriage if thats the way you talk to each other. :P

Of course there is a reason to choose one over the other. That's not the point. There's nothing wrong with what is said, it is how it is said. It's never: "Flux Rocks!" followed by "KDE is far more efficient...". It seems to be, "Uh uh, Flux is butt ugly, and your screenshot sucks worse than anything I've ever seen." Now, before someone posts something like, "what do you want, a cold emotionless technical forum? We're allowed to have our say!", take a breath, and point out to me where I said that. I never said I didn't want or like it. I actually find it amusing.

By the way, the bit about my wife was just illustrative fiction. Please don't call the women's shelter.

Since that name change, you just don't get the same level of respect any more. You've lost your 'tougher than beef jerky' image.

Well.. your screenshot IS butt ugly. I mean, what can I say. My purpose here on the forums is to learn a few things and pass on my knowledge to those that need it and dude, you need it. Ok ok, its not that its bad per se, its just that it.. well, makes me want to gag. Really, I concider it a service to my fellow Gentoo user to take you aside like this and ask you to please, for the love of god and all that is holy, take down that screenshot.

Can you post links to specific posts outlining this behavior? I haven't really seen it outside of FOO vs. SOMETHING_LIKE_FOO_BUT_NOT_FOO threads, which are absolutely dying for this behavior :(

It's PILLA, with two L. And it's an Italian name. BTW, pila in Brazilian Portuguese is slang for "money"

No "pila" in portuguese is dick, usually used with childrens because it's a soft term. a man usually says "caralho"...
PIP=pila isn't pilla
