i have added support for msdos dos and vfat in the kernel but when i try to mount a floppy with:

mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
i get the error:

mount: fs typre msdos not supported by kernel.

the same thing happens when i try vfat and for my windows partition.

The answer to your problem is already stated in the error message. Enable support for vfat and msdos in the kernel under 'File Systems' and recompile, etc. If you have never done this before (i.e. used genkernel) there are basic guidelines in the Gentoo Install Guide. Don't forget to tweak the rest of the kernel while you're at it.

edit:
stupid me, didn't read the first line of your post; you already did that :? . Sorry about that. Valid advise would be to see if you are booting the right kernel (if you have more than one) an wether you accidentally compiled MSDOS and Vfat support as modules without loading them. Can't think of anything else really.

Are you certain you are using the correct kernel? That is, the one with support in it? Perhaps you forgot to mount /boot before copying the new kernel over.
