|
|
With a 2.6.0-test8 kernel installed and in use, and with the /usr/src/linux symlink pointing at the right folder (linux-2.6.0-test8-patchset-0.1), I can't emerge pcmcia-cs, so I can't get my wireless PCMCIA card working. The error is this:
/usr/src/linux/include/linux/modversions.h does not exist! To fix, run 'make dep' in /usr/src/linux.
Now, I tried that, but the 2.6 kernels refuse to do that, so no go there. I tried copying the modversions.h from my 2.4.22-ck2 directory, but that didn't work so hot (as expected).
Any ideas? _________________ LAZOR ATTACK OLOZL ^_________________^ |

Don't know if this will solve your problem but to get pcmcia-cs compiled I think I had to enable it in the 2.6 kernel and build the yenta_socket module. Didn't matter. Because even with pcmcia running, I couldn't get my wireless card to work and had to switch back to a 2.4 kernel. Hope you have better luck.

If you use a 2.6 kernel you won't need to emerge pcmcia-cs any more,
since evreything is included in the kernel already.
Depending on your hardware you should enable the Yenta sockets and
the drivers for whatever wireless card you are using. I have a lucent
orinoco gold and the following in my kernel config
CONFIG_YENTA=y
CONFIG_HERMES=m
CONFIG_PCMCIA_HERMES=m
CONFIG_NET_WIRELESS=y
and everything works great |

Mine's a Prism2 card, I think (it's a Linksys WPC11 version 3), and since I couldn't tell which one in the kernel was the right one, I enabled all of the wireless and PCMCIA card drivers--no go anyway. _________________ LAZOR ATTACK OLOZL ^_________________^ |

Everything? What about init-scripts and support programs? |

pcmcia-3.2.5 (in portage) has a fix to compile with 2.6.x
For me it compiles now fine when I enable pcmcia in kernel, but after all no success with pcmcia-wlan. It wouldn't load automaticly the right driver (orinoco)... |

It works now! enable pcmcia and wlan (with the right device, in my case orinoco) in kernel and (re-)merge pcmcia-cs-3.2.5. |

jeez- i'm just fucked- pcmcia-cs is trying to load the module...
i've got everything enabled in the kernel- i guess i'll try building the prism2 stuff as a module :-/ |
