Adding an OpenVPN profile using nmcli

I'm trying to work with NetworkManager from the command line exclusively, and it would appear that there is not a way to add a VPN connection through nmcli. In light of this fact, I've been searching for documentation on the configuration file options for NM so I can manually create a config file for my VPN connection. I have found any such documentation surprisingly difficult to find, though I don't yet want to go so far as to assert it doesn't exist.

Does anyone know where I might be able to find such documentation, or have any suggestions for add VPN profiles to NetworkManager through the command line? Many thanks in advance!
