|
Hi everyone, I'm occasionally (2 out of every 3-4 boots) getting something similar to the following message:
"vgaarb: Device decodes changed: olddecodes=mem+io, new decodes=none"
Whenever this message shows up during the boot process, my screen simply goes black when X starts up.
I'm running nVidia proprietory drivers.
Does this mean I'm going to need a new graphics card soon, that there's a bug in the driver, or something else?

I found I need to downgrade nvidia-drivers. Neither 340 series nor 337 works for me. There is a bug on buggzilla discussing problems with latest drivers, and that's why maintainers reintroduced back to the portage the previous stable nvidia-drivers-334.21-r3, which seems worked for everybody |

Seems like that's done it, thanks
masked later driver versions, reverted to ealier version, rebooted, no issue. |

One thing, in longer term, is that 33x series will not be NVIDIA long term supported ones (as 96.x, 178.x and 304.x ones are).
So eventually 33x will disappear from portage. So we have to keep an eye on when 340 will start work for us, if ever. |
