This will allow an easy method of contacting all moderators at one time.
  • Users:
    • If you spot what you believe to be a duplicate post, please post a link to it here. In addition, include a link to what is being duplicated.
    • If you find a post you think belongs in a different forum, let us know.
    • Avoid multiple reports of spam:
      • If a user's posts are all spam, report the user, not the posts.
      • Review this thread after submitting a report. Please delete your report if someone beat you to the punch.
    • Any other post that you think requires moderation (violations of Guidelines, broken BBcode, etc.).

  • Moderators:
    • Please delete posts after you've addressed them.
Thanks in advance.

User: jackfrostenson
Reason: Looks kinda bot-ish to me

Looks like a spam magnet to me. I expect to see spam posts for properties in Turkey from new users any time now.
I've posted a warning. The banhammer is close by. -- Neddyseagoon.

Reason: Technically there's nothing wrong with this one, but it hits uncanny valley for me. It is also a necro-bump by a long term (though not very active) member... Kinda feels like a stolen account, though I don't have any way to verify it.
Dunno, I guess just watch for now.

Reason: Wie kann man diesen User auf Ignore stellen?

Moderator note:

Translated german text with DeepL: "How can I put this user on ignore?"

Moderator response:

Hello arfe,

the easiest method is not to read any threads or posts from this user.

Another option is to violate our forum rules (*) again - especially 8 or 9 or 10 - and then get banned.

If you violate number 16 of our forum rules again, you will also be banned again.

Ignoring mails from our admins and mods are also helpful to get banned.

https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-572071.html I think this is the thread about vipernicus leaving us. I found it in a thread where John R. Graham asked what had happened to him.

It seems there was also a thread about John R. Graham's homebuilt.

Simple community stuff.

More recently, richk449 had a thread about the 3d printer he was making.

There is more that disappeared with otw, but remembering productive contributors only seems right.

Thanks. Working on searching those... -- Zucca
I dug few 3D-Printer topics, but I didn't found any where richk449 was building one. Also, I dug the Vipernicus farewell topic out from there too. -- Zucca

Thank you for your constructive approach!

Unfortunately this does not seem to be the case. Maybe the user has sincerely good intentions but, as they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Actually, do you guys receive notifications when users edit their own posts?

Beside necro posting, but on topic, I do not see anything wrong here, yet. --Banana
[We have access to the forum's notification tools, but administrator privileges do not automatically sign us up for notifications on user changes. Thus, it's good for someone to actively set a watch on suspect content. Sometimes we do this on our own, but it never hurts to have observant users call out suspicious activity we might have missed. -Hu]

Reason: Just adding that, since this person has obviously used an illegal version of the game, he/she won't probably answer back, or even pretend to have buy the game since, don't this topic should be closed ? Sorry for noise.

We have discussed it internally. Since it is not a spam post or a post only about illegal stuff, we will keep it for now. Topic and user is on the whatch list. -- Banana

Dunno, if there is no interest in that topic, it will just die anyway there's no need to force it. Removing the shady link (whatever it was) and reminding the "not encouraging illegal activities" looks like a reasonable response to me.

There's the other part too: illegal where exactly, since different countries have different laws? There are a lot of grey areas regarding legality of unofficial distribution, some types of media you can obtain from any source, but are not allowed to distribute unless licensed for that, some media you can get away with downloading for backup purposes if you had bought a physical copy and so on.
I'd rather we did not beat ourselves any more than the governments already do, because it will be taken as a permission to beat us more. Just saying.

Illegal in the jurisdiction(s) for which the forums need to care about enforcement actions. If the entire project were hosted in a country that condoned unauthorized distribution, and such country refused to enforce any sanctions from countries that don't condone such distribution, then the project could ignore those links. The project is not hosted in such a jurisdiction, and so needs to make a good faith effort to avoid enabling unauthorized distribution.
