hey cheater GREAT kernel it really is fast... i cant use it though, the current ati-drivers will install, but no direct rendering. i need 3d... as soon as ati supports the newer mm kernels ill be using it. i do have a 2.6.17.1 vanilla kernel patched with reiser4 and drm works well w/it but where can i get these patches:
Code:
+git-libata-all.patch
+libata-debug.patch
+libata-reduce-timeouts.patch
+libata_resume_fix.patch
+libatah-needs-scatterlisth.patch
broken out?

i need pata support thats why im having such a hard time with my devices in udev...

Give the ATI solution posted by someone else a shot, they said direct rendering works.

Those patches can be found in the 2.6.17-mm1 broken-out directory. kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/akpm/patches/2.6.17
----
*EDIT*
My suspend2 patch is utterly complete. It builds in every situation, and it started to hibernate successfully, but locked up. I am almost sure of the problem. Expect to see no trace of suspend2 until 2.6.18-*-*-no*

*EDIT2*
ATI Will be fixed in 2.6.17-no2). 2.6.17-no2 will be aimed completely at making it more stable. I am also going to look at vesafb-tng.

*EDIT3*
REISERFS WILL BE FIXED IN -NO2
There is a second fix I found that goes in addition to the first fix I posted, that can be found in the 2.6.17-mm2 directory at kernel.org as reiserfs-reorganize-bitmap-loading-functions-fix2.patch. Bare with me here, I expected the first fix to fix all of it, it was never stated otherwise so it was an easy misconception.

I cant get my cryptoloop device working with this kernel:

Quote:
ioctl: LOOP_SET_STATUS: No such device or address, requested cipher or key length (256 bits) not supported by kernel

But cryptoloop and aes are compiled into the kernel. Anyone else got this problem?

Its the same problem as with squashfs(looped), maybe its loop problem,,,
And I have read somewhere that new reiser4 have problem with loop (but with the cryptocompress plugin enabled)

so than maybe i wouldnt work isofs mount (if that, it will be a loop problem)
sorry I dont have a time to prove it now:(

this is great patch, however I do have small request (if possible): mm patch make it imposible to deselect agp and in effect this forces me tu run AGPGART.
My box freezes randomly with AGPGART enabled but it works fine with NvAGP. blacklisting or agp=off in GRUB do not prevent AGPGART from loading if guild in the kernel.

In short, would be possible to have extra patch reverting mm changes to the way kernel handles AGP?

Thanks

Hey,
Great kernel cheater, not without flaws unfortunately. I have just started a fresh gentoo system with your kernel and encountered a serious problem with reiserfs. I have my /home partition on this filesystem and now when I for example log out or do ssh (or probably do any other write) I get the following message:

Note that I have applied the reiserfs patch provided in the instruction. I will now try compiling my kernel without 4k stacks.

PS. Sorry for bad formatting, I'm using links.

And that's why reiser4 > reiserfs ;)

Weird, disabling 4k stacks hasn't helped .. hmm.
PS. mbar, I have reiser4 for my root, however I couldn't convert my /home to reiser4 even if I wanted, there's a looot of data that cannot be backuped so easily.

/edit: I now noticed cheater's 'edited' post saying about a fix being in mm as reiserfs-reorganize-bitmap-loading-functions-fix2.patch ... gotta check that out.

this may be a bug in the latest AGPGART, my suggestion is waiting for -no2, which will have the latest agpgart from -mm2, if it is a bug with AGPGART.

I will not reverse that for a few reasons.

I was not thinking to remove agpgart patch altogerther, rather to have hot-fix aside for needy (like me :) )

Exactly what do you want a patch for? reverting agpgart all-together correct?
----

Sidenote:
2.6.17-no2 delayed until tomorrow:
Planning on integrating the complete lockless pagecache (patch is done, and it boots fine, i want to do a bit more extensive testing before putting it into effect)

I need an option to be able to deselect agp, as in unpatched kernel version. I don't know if this is feasible without reverting to the old apgrart that is in kernel 2.6.17 vanilla.

Usually when something like that occurs, it is because you have somewhere an option selected that requires agpgart. Find out what module it is that you are compiling that requires it.

2.6.17-no2 delayed a *little* bit longer because 2.6.17-mm3 was released.

I would like to emerge nvidia-kernel, but I do not know where I should put the patch.
The same for reiser4 patch.

oh, this is pretty simple:
on 64-bit systems to disable agpgart, you need to disable K8 GART IOMMU support first.
K8 GART is gone after recent -mm are applied

So I can't disable "K8 GART IOMMU support" and In consequence, I can't disable AGPGART

Note that I have applied the reiserfs patch provided in the instruction. I will now try compiling my kernel without 4k stacks.

PS. Sorry for bad formatting, I'm using links.

I had this problem too, see here. However, I could only reproduce it on certain merges, something that slightly confused me. If you have ccache in your features, try taking it out, though I doubt it will have an effect. It's interesting that you've (I presume) only found this issue in a 2.6.17 kernel, whereas I had it in a 2.6.16 and 2.6.17. Perhaps you could tell me how you retrieved your uncannily similar error message?

Question: How well will fbsplash work in 2.6.17-no2? Since reiser3 and fbsplash with radeonfb are my two big requirements (the fbsplash is the only way I've found to make the framebuffer 1280x800 on my computer for whatever reason), I'll probably be a devoted no-sources user if they work well!

I'm almost absolutely sure that it's a problem with -mm only, 2.6.16 worked perfectly for me. Fortunately the reiserfs-reorganize-bitmap-loading-functions-fix2.patch that cheater mentioned seems to be a cure, at least for me, I hope that maybe for you too, just try it. My error message comes straightly from /var/log/messages, it also appeared on my console device.
Cheers,
Rush

fbsplash won't work because of klibc being in-kernel, it can work with some modification to the splashutils package, this is heavy modificiation that will be done by 2.6.18 when klibc is merged to vanilla. (hopefully) radeonfb works, and with 2 hot-fixes reiserfs works.

2.6.17-mm2/mm3 are completely pre-fixed with the reiserfs hot-fixes

2.6.17-no2 is based off of 2.6.17-mm3 and being delayed because reiser4 is horribly broken (to the extent that corrupts file data badly, atleast for myself and the other person I know who tried it) For 2.6.17-no2 I also made squashfs kinit compatible, this was rather difficult but I was successful, once reiser4 is fixed I'll be able to test it in action.

Any chance of letting us non-reiser4 users give 2.6.17-no2 a try?

-no will work with all filesystems. Not just reiser4.

I think you misunderstood. I would like to try 2.6.17-no2 despite the fact that reiser4 isn't ready
